1. Enable Nearby Share on Your Android Device

a. Using Files by Google App (Recommended)

  1. Open the “Files” app on your Android phone.

  4. Toggle on “Use Nearby Share” if it’s not already enabled.

b. Without Files by Google App

  1. Go to your Android phone’s “Settings.”
  2. Select “Connected Devices” > “Connection Preferences” > “Nearby Share.”
  3. Toggle on “Nearby Share” to enable it.

Note: Once Nearby Share is enabled on your Android phone, it cannot be turned off, but you can hide your visibility to other devices.

2. Initial Setup for Nearby Share on Your Windows PC

  1. Download the Nearby Share app for Windows from the official website.
  2. Install the app by clicking on the downloaded file (e.g., BetterTogetherSetup).
  3. During the setup, you can give your PC a name and set up the sharing preferences (who can share with you).

3. How to Use Nearby Share

Now that Nearby Share is set up, you can easily share files between your Windows PC and Android phone:

a. Sending a File from Your Android Phone

  1. Open the “Files” app on your Android phone.
  2. Select the file you want to share and tap the “Share” icon.
  3. Tap on “Nearby” in the sharing options.
  4. A Nearby Share window will appear, showing available devices to share with (including your Windows PC).
  5. Choose your Windows PC from the list.
  6. On your PC, you’ll receive a notification about the incoming file. Click “Accept” to receive it.

b. Sending a File from Your Windows PC

  1. Open the Nearby Share app on your Windows PC.
  2. Select the file you want to share.
  3. The app will attempt to connect to your Android phone. If it doesn’t connect immediately, ensure Nearby Share is enabled on your phone.
  4. Once connected, the app will list nearby devices, including your Android phone.
  5. Click on your phone’s name to send the file.
  6. Your Android phone will receive a notification once the file is received and stored in the Downloads folder.
