How to Connect AirPods to Your Laptop

AirPods, the popular wireless earbuds from Apple, are not limited to just iPhones and iPads. You can also connect them to your laptop using Bluetooth. Whether you want to listen to podcasts, participate in Zoom meetings, or enjoy your favorite music, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to connect your AirPods to both Windows PCs and Macs.

Step 1: Prepare Your AirPods

Before you start, make sure your AirPods are charged. Place them in their charging case, close the lid, and wait a few seconds. It’s recommended to have at least 20% battery on your AirPods before you begin.

Step 2: Enable Bluetooth

Your AirPods will connect to your Windows laptop through Bluetooth. To ensure Bluetooth is enabled, follow these steps:

  1. Click on “Settings” in the Windows menu.
  2. Choose “Devices” from the settings options.
  3. Click on “Bluetooth & other devices.”
  4. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

Step 3: Add AirPods as a Bluetooth Device

  1. At the top of the Bluetooth & other devices menu, click on “Add Bluetooth or other device.”
  2. Select “Bluetooth” from the menu.

Step 4: Put AirPods in Pairing Mode

  1. Open the lid of your AirPods case.
  2. On the back of the case (for older AirPods) or on the front (for AirPods Pro), press and hold the small circular button until the LED lights inside the case flash.

Step 5: Wait for Pairing

Wait until the indicator light on your AirPods case turns white.

Step 6: Connect AirPods

  1. In the list of available Bluetooth devices, you’ll see your AirPods. Click on their icon.
  2. A pop-up screen will appear, indicating that your device is ready to go. Click “Done.”

Removing AirPods from a Computer

If you want to disconnect your AirPods or remove them from your PC, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Bluetooth & other devices menu.
  2. Click on your AirPods in the list of connected devices.
  3. Select “Remove device.”

To reconnect them, simply repeat the steps mentioned above.

 

Connecting AirPods to Your MacBook

If you’re using a Mac laptop and your AirPods are already connected to your iPhone, they will pair automatically through Apple Handoff. If not, follow these steps:

  1. Place both AirPods in the charging case and open the lid.
  2. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case (or the noise control button for AirPods Max) until the status light flashes white.
